KeymasterLast chance to get a ride in the nong’s before we plunge into darkness with daylight saving!
Departing the station at 7am for a re-introduction (at least for me) loop of the patch. Outbound heading up burwood and mountain highways. Down through Sherbrooke forest, the scenic Kallista-Emerald road and returning via Monbulk and the Wall before dropping into Svaks for coffee and cake. Please post if you wish to join in.
Cheers, Phil

KeymasterHi Tom,
Thanks for checking in. Yes, this is a pretty solid ride for riders with a few years experience in hill climbs. The distance is probably just shy of 100 km with around 1500 m of climbing. I imagine an average speed of 25km/hr over the whole ride. Feel free to join us on the way out and see how you go on the burwood road rollers. Once at the nong’s, if you just want something less, you could ride the 1 in 20 and meet us in the coffee shop for the ride home. I hope that helps.

ParticipantThanks for the warning Phil. Probably a bit much for me at this stage. I’ll have to work my way up to it.

KeymasterHi Tom,
I’m not sure where you’re at, so hopefully I’m not out of turn, but here’s some suggestions:
1. Build endurance and work up to riding 100+ km on the flat (eg. Frankston return)
2. Get comfortable with pushing the pace on short climbs such as Kew Boulevard
3. After 1 and 2, try shorter a hills ride such as Bonds rd (often posted on Sundays)
4. Ride out to the nong’s and ride the 1 in 20, struggle home. I remember it well, it was my introduction to hills many years ago 🙂There are many and varied rides posted on the ARC forum so I’m sure you can find something that suits. Ride consistently and you will be in the hills in no time!
All the best, Phil

ModeratorHi Phil, intending to join, might shortcut the Emerald loop to get a head start on the wall. Cheers, Richard

KeymasterThanks Phil and crew. I needed that… for me some ~93km, 1500m, tad under the 25km/h. Not sure that I’ll be able to walk for a few hours/days. However, it was a spectacular morning in the ‘Nong’s and great to be back out with the ARC peloton! Thx All
