Thank you Shaun for doing the ARC website pro bono for so long! And dealing with all the bastard hackers, robots, and other malfeasants out there.
I am looking at alternatives. There are a couple of ‘apps’ floating around: Stack Teams App – used by LBS, LBOYB, Blackburn Cycling and others. This is a general sporting clubs and teams app that is well used and supported. I like this (so far) because it is broadly used; Vivito looks interesting is a dedicated cycling apps but allows for other sporting activities. I like this (so far) beacuase of the cycling focus – inc strava, ride with GPS links. Both apps have websites, forums, activities (ride posting), discussions, sub groups (road, gravel, social, …), store etc
I do not want to do an exhaustive assessment (lest I end up exhausted) – does anyone have experience (setting up or using) these apps?
Should we shift we will need to re-register everyone… While I may be able to bulk transfer, each user would need to download and register on the app.
The ‘app’ provides the bulk of the functionality so operations and admin should be simpler.
Any thoughts, suggestions, specific insight welcome (and as I recognise I am a GOM pls keep focused on a tight number of alternatives…).Thx

2024-04-12 at 8:01 pm #81610RichardModeratorDoes Stack team app have forums? I don’t think they do. For example, Blackburn’s and LBOYB don’t seem to have anything that resembles the sort of forums that exists here. Neither does Facebook allow forums. It’s just one post after another.
I belong to a few other communities. One is using phpBB, which is a little dated in appearance but functionality is good. I think another is using Fora Communities, and has a more modern fresher look.
2024-04-21 at 10:05 pm #81705Russell IvesKeymasterHi ARCers, advising that we are in ‘alpha’ testing on Stack Team App. Very, very early prototype testing; posting rides, managing members etc.
Subject to acceptable alpha test results (!?) we’ll look to bulk load existing ARC website registered members. NO ACTION YET – we are still a couple months away. However, the bulk load will request a download of the app, acceptance of app invite etc.Watch this space!!
2024-05-27 at 7:17 pm #81967Russell IvesKeymasterAlpha testing of Stack Team App has concluded successfully! Progressing to Beta.
What does this mean?
1. We will launch the Stack Team App over the next few weeks, running in parallel. This means that you may need to check both sites!
2. I will be attempting to migrate all existing ARC web site/forum members and all their details (contacts, emergency etc but not photos!)
3. If this works you will get an invitation email to download the Stack Team App and you will be pregistered for ARC. If not you can can download the Stack Team App, search for Ashburton Riders Club and request to join. PLEASE WAIT until I advise HERE that I have initiated the migration.
4. The app (also accessible online) will provide for events, chats, news, etc.
5. To ‘post & host’ a ride you will need to be set up as a ‘restricted admin’. I will review the last 6 months posting & hosting and use that history as the basis. This should allow those that have been regularly posting & hosting to continue to do so.I am hoping to get this done over the next couple of weeks, with the parallel operation throughout June.
Keep watching this space. Please wait until I have advised OR you have received the Stack Team App email.
Thx!
2024-05-28 at 7:19 pm #81972Russell IvesKeymasterNext step!
I have now loaded ‘active’ members from the ARC website and forum to the ARC Stack Team App.
All these members should receive an invitation email. If you are not a current Stack Team App user you will need to download the the app, create a Stack Team App user, then head over to the ARC app.
I am still learning the ropes… (happy for assistance from LBS and LBOYB users!)
Please get on, check and update your membership details.
BTW there is a website: https://ashburtonridersclub.teamapp.com/?_webpage=v1
BUT the app is better and easier to use.
As I mentioned Admins and Restricted Admins should be able to post rides as an EVENT. If you post a ride please do on both the Stack app and on the forum. It will take a while for everyone to get registered, and comfortable with the app.
Thanks and good luck!

Should we post ‘heads-up’ on our various WhatsApp groups to alert folks to your forum post ARC SITE ALTERNATIVES – STACK TEAM APP??Justin
2024-05-30 at 7:35 pm #81988Russell IvesKeymasterPerhaps. However, all existing ARC forum members should have received an email inviting them similar to the one you received. Hopefully all have been notified…
I have also reposted the above as a ‘super sticky’ 🤞🏻
2024-05-30 at 10:22 pm #81989RichardModeratorWill the presence on the internet remain, so new members can find the club?
2024-05-31 at 10:02 am #81996Justin MurphyKeymasterYou’ve got it will covered Rusty. Great work. Cheers.
Justin.
2024-05-31 at 10:10 am #81997Justin MurphyKeymasterRichard, that was the plan discussed i.e., maintain a landing page with contact details for those seeking to join a riding group.

2024-05-31 at 10:34 am #81999Russell IvesKeymasterSo… ARC Facebook pages has been updated. ARC Strava club has been updated. BLOG and Supersticky has been noted on the ARC website. ARC “ABOUT” overview has been published and is available to the public (ie non members) on the STACK app.
Hopefully all generally accessible…
