Branko2021-01-26 at 2:28 pm #63541Wayne Russell

Sorry, fully subscribed at the moment.
The best I can do is put you second on the waitlist after Richard C.

ParticipantHi Wayne,
I am going to have to pull out of the weekend. Have a knee injury and have been advised to ease off the hill climbing for a few weeks.
I am sure the spot can be filled
Cheers

ModeratorHi ARC Alpine Challengers
With Stephen G unable to participate, I have a room available in Mansfield on Sunday night for anyone interested in riding Buller on the Monday.
One catch is that I will need a lift for me and bike to Mansfield and then home.
If interested please DM or call me on 0429148591.I’ve tried to attach a link to the two bedroom apartment but it’s not working for me. I can send this separately if interested.
Cheers

KeymasterFor bike computer & route nerds here are my approximation (start and end points may not be precise) of the routes on ‘Ride with GPS’:
Day 1: Bright-AnglersRest https://ridewithgps.com/routes/35107627
Day 2: AnglersRest-Bright https://ridewithgps.com/routes/35107644Not that there are many options to get lost… but provides some info on climbs and distances. Hopefully useful for the newbies (inc myself)
Trawling the old posts from Wayne here are some of the Climbing Cyclist notes:
Getting excited!

ModeratorHi Andrew,
I am planning on taking my car up on Friday afternoon and should have room for another bike and passenger.
A small number of participants do usually stay Sunday night and maybe do Buffalo on Monday – at this stage I am planning to return Sunday afternoon but might consider staying on (weather, legs etc)
Let me know if this works for you – mobile number is 0438 910335

ModeratorFriday 12th Feb.
I’m not riding this year, so any additional riding, eg Mt Buffalo, please organise individually.
For those who are in Bright early enough, Jude and I are having a drink at The Bright Brewery at 6pm, leading onto dinner at the same venue.
I have booked an outside area for 20 from 6pm in anticipation.
Saturday 13th Feb.
Bright to Anglers Rest (via Mt Hotham and Dinner Plain) – 139km, 2500vm, approx 6.30hr ride time.
2 groups (with the aim of coming together at Dinner Plain), both departing from the car park across Cobden St from Bright Velo, 2 Ireland St, Bright.
Be self sufficient for breakfast. Cars can be left in that carpark.
Departure times are 6.30 & 7am sharp, arrive early and allow extra time for bag drop, socialising etc.
6.30am with Justin 0412381839
7am with GarryD 0438910335
A car(s) will be available for bag drop from 6.15am in the carpark. Please keep bag size to a minimum, leave the rest in your car. A small esky will be available at the same time to transport any personal perishable breakfast items to Anglers Rest.
Water and food available (every 30 or 40km).
Water available at Harrietville (toilet block in carpark LHS just prior to the General Store, (I suggest leaving with 2 full bidons for a 2 hr climb), Mt Hotham (General Store), Dinner Plain (DP Hut LHS in main Carpark), and Omeo Bakery Cafe (& public toilet block, RHS opposite The Golden Age Hotel).
Food available at Harrietville General Store, Hotham General Store, The Hub Dinner Plain, Omeo Crazy Cow Bakery and Cafe.
Harrietville – stopping at carpark toilet block for water stop and climb prep.
Dinner Plain ETA 10am – Stopping at The Hub Dinner Plain (left at the main roundabout, vehicle parking still outside the closed Mountain Kitchen) for coffee/morning tea, and regroup.
Omeo ETA 12.30pm – Stopping at Crazy Cow Café & Bakery (LHS opposite The Golden Age Hotel) for lunch, and regroup.
Beware the wooden bridge in the valley half way between Omeo and Anglers Rest – large longitudinal gaps that will swallow your front wheel – walk or ride VERY slowly.
Expect to arrive at The Blue Duck Inn around 2.30-3pm. Time for a nice cool swim in the river, a relax, and a few drinks before dinner. Jude has offered to supply drinks and snacks in the undercover BBQ area opposite our cabins from approx 4pm, beer/wine/mineral waters/chips/dips and snacks – $15pp to assist with costs.
If anyone has the energy, assistance with prep always appreciated.
Cabins $65pp – Lana from the Blue Duck has advised me that EFTPOS is unreliable this year, and she requires accomodation payment upfront. To this end, I will be paying a lump sum and asking for reimbursement via internet banking with details below.
A cabin allocation list will be provided to assist with checkin.
Dinner at The Blue Duck is from 6pm, and must ordered by 7.30pm. Table booked. http://www.blueduckinn.com.au
Payment options for dinner will be either cash, or take your chances with EFTPOS, with the back up of leaving card details for later debit. Just remember to settle up before retiring.
Sunday breakfast packs are not available this year, so you will need be self sufficient with the esky option from Bright available. Gas powered fridges and cook tops in the rooms.
No power in the rooms (except lighting), plenty of outlets in the pub for recharging.
No mobile reception, public phone in the pub.
For those not cycling, the pub is not open until 11.30 Sunday morning, so you will need to be self sufficient.
Sunday 14th Feb.
Anglers Rest to Bright (via Falls Creek) 111km, 2000vm’s, approx 5hr ride time.
Again, 2 start groups, 6.30 & 7am, the aim to arrive at Falls Creek at a similar time.
Falls Creek ETA 9am – stopping for regroup and coffee at The Village Bike Cafe in the carpark RHS opposite Foodworks, open from 8am.
Mt Beauty ETA 11am – stopping at The Mt Beauty Bakery for regroup and lunch. (right at the roundabout, second street on the right, Kiewa Cres)
Bright ETA 2pm – The toilet block near the river in Mountbatten St, (RHS before crossing Morses Creek) will be the initial drop off point for the bags. Nice to have a swim in the river on a hot day. Join us for a drink or two at The Brewery, area for 25 booked from 3pm, to celebrate a great ride before heading home.
Monday 15th Feb.
I’m heading home Sunday night so please organise any additional rides individually.I’ll bring a floor pump and a few 10 speed Shimano spares, tyres, tubes, tools, 25litres of fresh Melbourne water. Bring anything else you think prudent, but there is limited space available for transport.
By Monday 8th Feb could you please advise if:
– attending dinner Friday night.
– which group 6.30/7am you are joining Saturday (for rollcall).
– there are other vehicles travelling to Anglers Rest other than Jude and myself that can assist with bag/food transport.
– needing esky space Bright to Anglers Rest.
– anyone you particularly do (or don’t) want to share a cabin with, as I’ll be providing The Blue Duck with a cabin list next Wednesday to assist our checkin Saturday.
– you have any Vego/Vegan/Food allergies that need considering for Saturday afternoon snacks.
– payments of $80pp, covering accomodation and Saturday afternoon snacks/drinks, can be made to my PayID, which is my phone number 0403877060, please include your name. Text me if BSB & Account details required. At the moment we have 28 participants –

Waitlist – BrankoIt’s getting exciting. Fingers crossed for the weather. Ensure your bike is in good order.
If for any reason you think your fitness is not as you had hoped, it is not an issue to withdraw, or to drive, offer support, and just enjoy the social aspects of the weekend. We have well above the minimum required to cover accommodation assurances.
Give me a call if you have any questions.

ModeratorHi Wayne
Thanks again for organising the weekend again particularly as you won’t be riding this year. In answer to your queries:
-Yes, for dinner on Friday night
-6:30am start on Sat (Justin’s mob)
-Assume Robyn is my roomie in Anglers Rest
-No esky space needed
-No food allergies
-Payment had been made to your pay ID this evening.Looking forward to a great weekend of riding and socialising.
Thanks again

ModeratorThanks Elaine, Lynton, and Jonathan for the payments.
I hadn’t linked the two, but Jonathan was way ahead of the game.
If you want to save handling small amounts of cash on the day, you can combine the $65 accomodation cost and $15 contribution to Saturday afternoon snacks and electronically transfer $80pp in the one transaction. (amended above)
Also, there will be a small amendment to our Dinner Plain stop. DP Mountain Kitchen has closed, which is a shame. I’m talking to The Hub Dinner Plain which opened in Dec 2020 as a replacement about it’s suitability. Will advise. -
