ModeratorThe snow is nearly gone, the road to Falls is fixed, its time……!!
Dates for the 2024 ARC Alpine Challenge are locked in, accommodation is booked, and entries are now open.
Our planned route will take us up Mt Hotham, down to Omeo and round the back of Falls Creek and back to Bright over two days. On the way we will travel a total of 250km and 4500vm while consuming lots of cakes, wine and beer.
Apart from being a great social event for riders and partners, it is also great chance to set a goal to work towards over the summer or just for the challenge of being in that spectacular part of the country on a bicycle with the ARC cycling group. It is not a race, and everyone rides at their own pace, departing in groups to suit ability, and taking as long as required.
Sag wagon support is not guaranteed so fitness levels must be suitable and bikes mechanically prepared. Over the last couple of years, we have been lucky enough to have enough support drivers which has allowed people to jump a ride when needed. So don’t give up if you think your fitness might not be 100% as we may be able to work something out.You will need to be in, or around, Bright on Friday 09th February ready for an early Saturday morning start. This means booking accommodation well in advance (November) for the Friday night. Most people meet for dinner at the Bright Brewery on Friday night (6pm) and I will book this closer to the date.
Saturday 10th Feb ride from Bright to Anglers Rest via Mt Hotham 139km & 2500vm.
Sunday 11th Feb ride Anglers Rest to Bright via Falls Creek 111km & 2000vm.
Friday 10th and/or Monday 13th Feb – Quite a number of people head out of Melbourne on Friday morning and start a Mt Buffalo ride around 1pm (63km & 1300vm). Staying Sunday night after the ride for dinner and a beer is also worth considering (I will also book this at the Bright Brewerry). Last year a number of us did a ride on the Monday morning before heading back to Melbourne before lunch. Again, you will need to organise your own accommodation for the Sunday night.Accommodation Saturday night is at The Blue Duck Inn, Anglers Rest. As always, the highlight of the weekend is afternoon drinks and nibbles on the lawns followed by dinner in the restaurant.
We have booked all 6 cabins. Room for 24-29, dependent on the mix of couples, males, and females.
A SMALL bag can be transferred between Bright and Anglers Rest.

If you post your interest, please put it in your diary at the same time, and consider booking accommodation in Bright Friday night.
Non-cycling partners and family members very welcome.
At this stage the weekend will be similar to previous years but if you have any questions give me a call, or chat to those you’re riding with for additional detail.Bikes, hills, good company and an excuse for lots of calories – what are you waiting for!
