Elaine Shallue
ModeratorHi Wayne
Reality bites. As I have not riden up a mountain in 6 months and am unlikely to do so in the next 6 weeks, I am going to withdraw from tbe Alpine weekend.
Some other lucky rider can have my spot in 2020.
I’ll be back in 2021.
Cheers

ModeratorI have reluctantly and belatedly come to the same conclusion as Elaine. Having only just got back on the road 10 days ago I will be in no fit state to tackle the High Country. So that frees up another spot for some lucky person!
Cheers………Perry

ModeratorHi Elaine & Perry,
No worries, both understandable, thanks for letting me know.
The good news, Gordon and Marg, you both have a bed.
GlennS, a little more complicated for you at this stage, there is a bed for you, and physically a bed for your wife, but a the moment for her that would either be in a separate cabin in a room with Robyn and Julie, or you both in a room with Robyn and Julie, or you both in a room with 2 blokes. One single male pulling out would have you in your own room together. Feel free to give me a call if you need that clarified.
Cheers

ModeratorHi Wayne
Unfortunately I am out for the weekend due to lack of kms in the legs and not likely to catch up over the next few weeks. Hope to be back for 2021!
I hope Glenn & Wilma enjoy the upgrade😀
Cheers and happy riding

ModeratorHi Phil,
I wasn’t looking for volunteers, and I hope you jumped rather than felt pushed!
Also that you’re up for the weekend and join us for a beer in Bright or a coffee in Tawonga.
Glenn & Wilma welcome, no waiting list at the moment.

ParticipantThanks Phil. Hope to catch up with you riding soon. Thanks Wayne for organising.

ModeratorHi Wayne,
I’d like to join your ride, this time on a bicycle. It seems the accommodation situation is fluid and if no bed becomes available I am happy to pitch a tent on the river. Hopefully, one of the cars has space for my camping gear, kitchen sink etc.

ModeratorHi Imre.
Good to have you along, look forward to catching up on your adventures.
As you say, no bed at the moment, but who knows?
I sure there is room in a car for the kitchen sink.
Cheers

ModeratorHi Everyone,
Victoria is in a bit of a mess at the moment including The NorthEast Alpine area where we intend to be cycling in a month.
At present most roads that we intend to use are closed, with out of control bushfires within 10km of Buffalo, Hotham, and Anglers Rest.
Apart from road closures, there are welfare and safety issues such as imminent fire risk or poor air quality that may lead to cancelling the weekend.
I also note that local businesses and communities are desperate for tourism to continue when conditions are safe, and want people to return ASAP.
You should be prepared that the weekend may not go ahead, but at this stage I am continuing with the expectation it will, with a final decision in the week prior.
Happy for any input.
Cheers

KeymasterAgree. I suspect that we may also run in to the post fire clean up…
Suggest we consider the ‘pull out’ earlier than a week before.
If the mega fire eventuates the high country will be in a shambles for months.-

ModeratorLooks like the Alpine Classic has been cancelled on the Australia day weekend.

ModeratorWe need to get up there after things clear regardless of outcome of our intended ride for the support. Once things have cleared up. Even if different format.

ModeratorHi All, and thanks for the input.
I acknowledge that it is most unlikely that we will be able to complete our planned route but will maintain the group booking at Anglers Rest until the week prior to ensure that if cancellation is required it will be for known and confirmed reasons.
It would appear that the roads to Bright, and from there to Falls Ck, and Mt Hotham and Dinner Plain are now open. Depending on whether other roads are closed due to damage and tree fall risk, or just for emergency vehicle access will determine if they are quickly opened once fires are under control.
Subject to air quality forecasts and road access issues it may still be possible to fashion a cycling weekend in the area, possibly in and out of Anglers Rest on the same road via Falls Ck or Mt Hotham, or a series of individual climbs completely based only from Bright.
If you feel more comfortable making an earlier call to cancel other accomodation and arrangements you have made feel free, just let me know.
Fingers crossed for some decent rainfall.
Cheers

ParticipantWayne,
Leighs team Nero Continental are racing in the Herald Sun tour 5-9 February. Leigh is currently 1st emergency for the race. If Leigh gets a late call up I’d like to be on hand to follow the tour. Regrettably Greg and I will withdraw from the Alpine weekend. I appreciate all your hard work to co ordinate the weekend. I will however be happy to pay for any accommodation costs if they need to be covered due to the late notice. Regards Margaret2020-01-24 at 1:45 pm #58429Wayne Russell
ModeratorNo worries Margaret, thanks for letting me know.
I try to avoid all cycling conflicts when I set the date, not sure why it conflicts this year.
Wish Leigh all the best.
I’ll be contacting businesses, including The Blue Duck Inn, in the Alpine Area after the long weekend to see what can be achieved over our planned weekend.
