Hi Tom,
I’m not sure where you’re at, so hopefully I’m not out of turn, but here’s some suggestions:
1. Build endurance and work up to riding 100+ km on the flat (eg. Frankston return)
2. Get comfortable with pushing the pace on short climbs such as Kew Boulevard
3. After 1 and 2, try shorter a hills ride such as Bonds rd (often posted on Sundays)
4. Ride out to the nong’s and ride the 1 in 20, struggle home. I remember it well, it was my introduction to hills many years ago 🙂
There are many and varied rides posted on the ARC forum so I’m sure you can find something that suits. Ride consistently and you will be in the hills in no time!
