Thx all. Nice cruisy FF ride. Weather was pretty good albeit a little cool. Interesting (!?) weather forecast for the weekend…
[some hopefully helpful definitions
– Track turns: riders in single file staying well away from the kerb (space to drop into when rolling off), lead rider flicks elbow/arm, moves left, slows and drops back, next rider maintains the pace
– Roll 1 and hold: riders in double file, right hand rider smoothly accelerates ahead of left hand rider, shifts left to take the lead left position and eases back to group pace. Right hand file moves one position forward.
– NB when passing other riders the lead rider stays ‘out’ (ie does not cut back in from of the passed rider) until the whole peloton has passed the rider – ensuring that the passed rider has space and is not swamped by the bunch.
– 500 metres (this seems to be tricky): approximately half a kilometre, 550 yards, 25 chains, 100 rods, 0.25 of a nautical mile, 3×10^-9 of au.
OR for the time inclined approximately 1min @ 30kmh.
So… for track turns or roll 1 and hold ‘every 500m or so’ the lead rider(s) should be on the front for 1-2 minutes before rolling off. ALWAYS ensuring that it is safe to do so.]
