A post from Brad on other site for this year’s edition of around the bay.
Meet at the Duckpond/Darling Station around 4:40am (3:40am old time!!)
and planning to roll out at 4:45am.
Will head along Wattletree Rd through to Fitzroy and Beach Rd. Up to Port Melbourne
where we will cut through to the bottom of the Westgate bridge arriving there at
around 5:30am (we are not planning to go to the start line).
Assuming no raging headwinds then the timing will be something like:
8:00am, 10 min stop
10:20am (if we get 9:40am ferry)
11:05am (good luck 300km’ers)
12:45pm, 10 min stop
3:20pm, 10 min stop
As per 300km ride but after Dromana it goes:
Frankston: 12:15pm, 10 min stop
Add 1 hour and 20km if you add Arthurs Seat and return via Red Hill
The above is at an average moving speed of 26.5km/hr.
Add three hours for the 300km team after Dromana, 3.5 hours if we can be bothered to do Point Nepean.
If we miss the 9:40am ferry and end up on the 10:00am Ferry, which is not unlikely, then of course add 20 minutes.
Next ferry after 10am is 11am!!
Last minute checks on tyres, chains, gear cables, food, 2 x tubes and we are good to go.
Dress is formal (i.e. ARC) except for those who wish to display their 300km prowess.
Foodwise we will burn through around 19,000kJ on the 250km ride, another 2500kJ
for the 300km team.
Breakfast is around 3500kJ, lunch would be around 4000kJ so say 8,000kJ rounding up.
So 11,000kJ to consume. As a cross check 1kg of body fat is around 32,000kJ – so a great
chance to lose some weight. In practice though you will hit the wall first so you will need to eat around 5000kJ – 8000kJ.
So, what does this look like?
Winners protein bar = 800kJ
Energy gel = 500kJ
Banana = 400kJ
1 Allan’s Snake = 175kJ
Good luck everyone and see you on the day, Brad.
