for those who missed out riding it this year, find my 2020 post Winter Solstice ride report link below:
For those non-Stravarians:
Later start than planned, and frosty cold in parts, but the kick off latte got me rolling. Sunrise around St Kilda, then via Footscray Rd + a very frosty bike ramp near the port, and rode past a massive overhead rail bridge crane structure near the flower market. On to Williamstown, with even the slightest breeze. Via the foreshore and bike tracks to Altona. Hooked onto a small local group who towed me to Pt Cook. Snydes Rd to Werribee. Solo but pleasant ride down Geelong Rd to meet brother Tim + family in G town, and had a too long a refueling stop in luscious midday sun on the deck. Left a smidge after 1pm, with Tim’s wheel to drag me to Queenscliffe. Decided to take the bike track instead of the noisy highway, and it was glorious with rolling hills a verdant green. I highly recommend this side track! First part sealed, then fast gravel. Tim dialled up the pace and kept the power on @35-40kph, with me just hanging on. When it looked like there was a slim chance of getting the 2pm ferry he dialled it up again! Rolled into the ferry station with 10min to spare. Awesome effort out front bro! A few cars + people on the ferry, and with Covid, needed to give name + ph number. Grabbed something to eat + drink. Rolled off the ferry first and sat on endurance pace + HR for a steady ride home, (bypassing Arthurs + Hearn Rd climbs this time as it was about 3.30pm). Ate pretty much all my snacks by the time it started getting dark, and rolled into the driveway at home at 7pm on the dot. A perfect day for a long ride: sunny, with not even the slightest breeze. Who’s up for Winter Solstice ATB 2021? Thanks Tim!
BTW Rusty – The full road test of the new ARC Pro nicks comes up trumps for longer rides!!
All welcome, (Covid situation conditional of course) to the 2021 Winter Solstice ATB, on Saturday 26th June 2021, launching @ 5.30am from my place in Glen Iris.
It’s all about celebrating the end of the depth of Winter + the start of days getting longer again. EeeHaa!
Details to follow.
Steady endurance pace, (excepting if my brother is available to drag us from Geelong to Queenscliffe!).
Expressions of interest welcome!
Prep training of some sort highly recommended, well pretty much mandatory!
Part route participation also possible.

Awesome effort James. 🧢 off. (Sharon and I passed you on Geelong Road but hadn’t seen your post and at the time couldn’t quickly pick it was you.) Cheers, Philip
