I know most of you will have heard of Perry’s accident last week where he was hit by a car at a roundabout. Perry advised that he had a broken hip and had an operation last week to insert a 12″ rod inserted into his femur.
I contacted him today and he provided the below update: “I was moved to Epworth Camberwell yesterday for re-hab. Still can’t get out of bed unassisted but can get around on a frame or wheelchair. Estimated time here is 2 weeks”
He would also like to thank everyone for their thoughts, messages and calls.
I have passed on our best wishes for a speedy recovery, however should you wish to contact personally (sounds like he will have some free time for a few weeks) his mobile number is 0477 787 809

Thanks for the update Garry.2019-09-11 at 11:47 am #54893
Thanks for posting the update Garry. For those unaware of the details I had just completed a BRL with Garry and Richard D. on Monday 2-Sept and was heading up Dent st on my way home. At the roundabout at Munro Ave. I saw a car approaching on my left and saw it slow but by the time I realized it wasn’t actually stopping it was too late. I hit the car on the front right guard, went over the bonnet and hit the road hard on my left hip.
After an agonizing ambulance ride to The Alfred I was admitted to Emergency where I was ‘stabilized’ and checked all over. I went under a general anesthetic that night and woke up with a long metal rod, two pins and several cable ties holding the top of my femur together. For a couple of days I could hardly move my leg at all and 9 days on still have limited movement.
This is my first major accident in 20+ years of cycling so can’t complain too much; certainly others have come off worse or had more accidents. Take care out there everybody and take extra care at roundabouts! Just because a car is slowing does not mean it’s going to give way!2019-09-11 at 8:17 pm #54895
Best wishes for your recovery Perry hope you are up and about soon.

Ouch! Makes you realise how vulnerable we are on the bike, particularly when riding alone. Best wishes for a speedy recovery Perry. Ken2019-09-15 at 12:40 am #54945

Update – got out of Epworth hospital and came home yesterday. Still limited movement in my knee and hip but getting better and am getting around OK on crutches. Will be on crutches for another 3 weeks before an appointment with the orthopaedic surgeon. Hopefully back on the bike not too long after that!
Thanks to all who called, messaged and visited! Ride safe.

Glad to hear you’re home and recovering well albeit a pretty long recovery.
Look forward to seeing you back on the bike in the not too distant future.
