Current Leader Board:
Polka Dot Jersey KOM: Gavin 659m
Polka Dot Jersey QOM: Margaret 211m
Green Jersey KOS: Brad 29.06, Russell 27.76km
Green Jersey QOS: Elaine 24.34km
Yellow Jersey KGC Brad 29.78, Russell 29.67km
Yellow Jersey QGC. Elaine 24.73km
Team Jersey: Margaret/Julie Combined GC 48.01km
Ok, no more moping around inside garages on trainers or simply moping around in front of the TV fattening the curve. The real Tour is only weeks away and we need to get fit so that we can maintain our late night TV vigils.
So here is the challenge with three jerseys on offer:
Green Jersey – most kilometres covered in LESS THAN 1 hour
Polka Dot Jersey – greatest vertical metres covered in LESS THAN 1 hour
Yellow Jersey – GC classification for the highest combined KM and vertical metres. Note
each vertical metres is worth 4 horizontal metres so 100m vertical gives you a 400m addition to your distance. The largest sum gets the jersey
White Jersey – well probably none of us are young enough so perhaps this goes to Ray as the most belligerent rider!
1. You must observe Covid rules – 5km radius from home, one ride/day
2. Start and stop points are to be within 300m of each other (and of course near home)
3. Elapsed time is less than 1 hour. If it is more than 1 hour or more then it DOES NOT COUNT!
4. No indoor trainers please – real roads only (Russell)
5. More rules will be added as people come up with clever ways to get around the above!
6. Post your ride here and we will try and keep some sort of leader board running (suggestions for a more efficient method welcome).
7. The competition finishes when the lockdown does (or until we get bored!)
8. Scrutineers may check your Strava post if suspicious entries start to appear.
To get things started I will nominate my Tuesday ride (10 Aug) of 21.24km, 322m climb and time of 58:02. Needless to say I take all the jerseys on the first day!!
Good luck to you all and hope to see some posts to challenge my current record.

Day 2: KOM attempt. 19.78km, 512m, time 59:58. GC calculation 19.78 + 4×512 = 21.828km2020-08-13 at 12:59 pm #61619
Alrighty then… I was going to submit the following but then read the fine print and it doesn’t qualify:
Ride time: 59m58s
Total Ascent: 351m
GC Distance: 26.150
The scrutineers needn’t review as I withdraw the submission.
– The Strava ride was 63min …
– If I ended the ride at 60min then Start and finish would be too far apart
A very interesting challenge to optimise the route to comply with all the rules!2020-08-14 at 9:12 pm #61620
1:01:12 moving time
Missed by that much!!
Next time…2020-08-15 at 9:25 am #61621
Very close Gary (and clearly I am going to have to lift my game!).
I do note some references to ‘moving time’ though. Not sure Dan Andrews
specified 1 hours exercise as measured by actual ride time 😉
So to be clear it is 1 hour elapsed time.
Ok, it is a sunny Saturday morning. Time to see if I can beat your 25.46 km mark.2020-08-15 at 10:57 am #61622
Read it and weep!!
25.32km, 418m elevation, GC = 26.99
Surely Elaine can do better with the velodrome next door!2020-08-15 at 3:38 pm #61623
This afternoon was just too spectacular not to get on the bike. Still refining course options that fall within all the parameters… This one was door-to-door concluding with ever decreasing loops!
Total Ascent 477m
GC km equiv 1.91km
GC distance 29.67km

Very well done Russell! This sets the bar very high indeed.2020-08-15 at 9:22 pm #61625
first time on the roadie for a while, so short sharp hills near home:
Ride time: 59:48
Total Ascent: 608m
GC Distance: 22.38km
and Brad, re the rules moving time v elapsed time. I’d suggest move time would create more of a level playing field. my ride today had identical move and elapsed time but I had no traffic lights to hold me up.

Congrats to the new KOM – Gavin! On the moving time issue I think elapsed time is what we are
meant to be doing from a covid point of view and it does add another complication to planning the trip. I am now trying to devise a route with all left hand turns just to avoid the lights!2020-08-16 at 10:29 pm #61629
Brad, fair enough. and thanks for organising. good luck with the lefty route2020-08-17 at 11:59 am #61630
Repeat of the “Ashy Stn 5km Radius ~60min #2“ route. Was going to finish well ahead of time so added and Ashy loop. Wahoo 59:49, Strava 60:22! AG know how you feel. Am assuming that Strava is the chosen system of record. Also that was moving not elapsed so double fail …
The ride the might have been:
Total ascent 368m
GC km equiv 1.47km
GC distance 29.88km
Oh well was feeling good about that one. Nice morning out!2020-08-17 at 6:41 pm #61631
today’s short hill repeats mind numbing instalment:
Ride time: 59:45
Total Ascent: 659m
GC Distance: 25.19km2020-08-18 at 12:23 pm #61632
Gavin; 24 odd repeats! Numbing indeed…
Another nice morning out. Tried a Dux 5km radius friendly variant of #2, shortened the NE boundary and added a couple of loops:
Duration 58.09 (moving, slightly over the hour elapsed due traffic!)
Total ascent 362m
GC km equiv 1.45km
GC distance 27.85km
Didn’t qualify; need to avoid traffic and stoplights!2020-08-20 at 12:54 pm #61633
